Massimiliano Montini is Associate Professor of European Union Law at the University of Siena (Italy), where he teaches Environmental Law and Sustainable Development Law. At the University of Siena, he is Founder and Director of the Environmental Legal Team a University-based research and consultancy team of lawyers, and co-Founder and co-Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Group R4S (Regulation for Sustainability).
His main research interests relate to International and EU Environmental Law, with a focus on Climate Change, Sustainable Development, Regulation for Sustainability and the transition from Environmental Law to Ecological Law.
He is a Fellow of the C-EENRG Research Centre of the University of Cambridge and of the Venice International University, as well as a fully qualified lawyer. Moreover, he is a member of several research networks, such as the UN Harmony With Nature Knowledge Network, ELGA, Avosetta, GEIG and Climate Strategies. He has been a legal consultant to the Italian Ministry for the Environment from 2004 to 2014.
