ELGA at Seminar on Human Rights and Rights of Nature

On 15th September 2017, the Group of Advanced Studies on Ecology and Economy in International Law (EMAE/UFSC) held a Seminar on Human Rights and Rights of Nature at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Florianopolis, Brasil. The President of the Interamerican Court of Human Rights, Roberto de Figueiredo Caldas, was the key speaker. He talked about the synergy among human and nature rights at the Court.

Professor Massimiliano Montini linked in by video conference and introduced the Ecological Law & Governance Association to the audience.

The closing speech was made by Maria Mercedes Sanchez, co-ordinator of the UN’s Harmony with Nature Program. She introduced the Harmony with Nature platform and presented the newly released report approved by the UN General Assembly (A/72/175). This report was based on contributions to the Seventh Dialogue on Rights of Nature, which provided key recommendations for consideration by Member States.
